By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Heb 11:8
Let’s stop on that verse for a moment and see the magnificent way in which God writes the New Testament, as oppose to what He had to say in the Old Testament. If you only had this account, you would think that God had said to Abraham, “Abraham go to Palestine,” and then Abraham had clicked his heels, saluted, and said, “forward march, one, two, one, two!” But the way it really happened if you go back to the Old Testament was, “one, two, two and a half, sit down and rest, drag it along a little farther, let’s go, let’s stop, halt, left-foot, hay-foot, straw-foot.” Everything wrong!
That’s the wonderful thing you see, when God looks at us in Christ, He can put it down, “by faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed.” Did Abraham do it right away? Certainly not, but God’s grace was sufficient to cover him, and God sees him perfect in Christ. And this lets us know that in all our little lame limping walk, God sees us in Christ. And isn’t it wonderful to know this.
